THE MAXIE FUND
In 2010, we founded the Maxie fund in memory of Thelonious Max, a super-cool labrador retriever whose sparkling joie de vivre inspired countless humans and fellow canines. Even when faced with daunting physical challenges, Max greeted each new day with a wry twinkle in his eyes and a can-do attitude. When Max could no longer manage stairs, he eagerly awaited his custom-made ride, scooping up a stuffed pup-pup toy to accompany him for a fun ride down the stairs.
In tribute to Max, his mom, Lisa has made cozy fleece blankets, which will raise funds to help other senior dogs in need. Each blanket is unique, like the individual spirit of each of the animals we are blessed to have in our lives. Another goal of this fund is to help senior citizens keep their beloved pet companions in their homes during these difficult economic times. Lisa has donated all of her labor: for each blanket purchased at $40, $15 pays for the cost of the fabric, and $25 is directly donated to the Maxie Fund.
The Maxie Fund is administered by Harris Pet Hospital in Paddock Lake, WI. To make additional donations to the Maxie Fund, please contact Harris Pet Hospital at 262-843-4251 and ask for Jamie, the office manager.
